ITACA

Abergele Youth Action (AYA) is a voluntary organisation formed in September 2001 when a number of local people responded to the rise in anti-social behaviour in the community. The aim is to extend and develop activities and opportunities for young people aged 10-25 in Abergele and the surrounding areas.
In 2005 AYA established an internet cafe in the bar area of the former Hesketh Arms Hotel and called the facility "Itaca".
Itaca provides an additional facility mainly, but not exclusively, for young people in Abergele and the surrounding areas. It offers a venue for the development of multi media projects and community facilities to increase the ICT competences of individuals and groups, including web-based information and advice and links to organisations and services in place to support young people. Over three years since 2005, this has proved to be an innovative and highly successful project which has made a significant difference to the lives of many young people in the community.
Itaca now extends into the adjoining Bistro and first floor conference and training rooms and operates as a community enterprise.
