Minutes of meeting held on 16th January 2007 at Itaca... Hesketh House at 4.30pm
Present at the meeting were:

The minutes were approved. - Matters arising
- Agenda item 3: Annual Accounts – Linda Tavernor explained that the annual accounts had not been available at the last meeting, however copies were now available should anyone wish to inspect them.
- Agenda item 9: Safer Routes to School – Linda Tavernor apologised for omitting to enclose the report with the minutes. These were then distributed.
- Safer Routes to School update
The committee agreed to move this item forward. Colin Jarrett represented the school. Linda Beagan presented an up to date report and copies were circulated. She stressed the importance of having a meeting of the School Travel Plan Committee (STP) as soon as possible. Up to date data needs to be collated on routes to school and actual and preferred travel plans of pupils. www.youngtransnet.org.uk could prove to be a useful website. Nayland expressed the committee’s appreciation to Linda Beagan. - AYA update:

- Recent events feedback
- Discos – two discos were held in December in Kinmel Bay and in Abergele. Kinmel Bay had not been as well attended as Abergele. Discussion took place as to why that may be and it was agreed that it could be a matter of geography in Kinmel Bay.
- PACT – funding has been received from PACT for a project entitled ‘Reaching Out’. Tim and Medwyn presented a report.

- Discos – three discos are planned for Abergele before Easter.
- Boxing – Linda reported that young men are showing a great deal of interest in boxing and a sizeable number are attending a gym in Rhyl. A discussion took place about what could be done to provide this facility closer to home. Alun Evans outlined some of the popular activities held at the leisure centre including martial arts clubs. It was suggested that perhaps we could organise an event and perhaps do more to promote activities already available.
- 'Fit girls club' – Linda reported that some young women had approached her about the possibility of a fitness club for girls. Nayland and Alun both explained that the PE department at the school has worked hard to encourage PE amongst the girls with the use of music and it was suggested that an after school club might prove to be popular. Aled Hughes described the activities of the Eisteddfod in the area of Dance. Linda suggested that the youth club may be able to provide something.
- Alun informed those present that there is to be an Open Day at Kinmel Bay Community Centre on 17th February.

- Recent events feedback
- The recent visit of Edwina Hart AM MBE Minister for Social justice and Regeneration had been very successful and Nayland expressed his appreciation for her support as well as that of Alun Pugh AM particularly with regard to future funding.
- Over 50's proves to be increasingly popular on Thursday at 12.30-2.30pm and has now been extended to a second group on Friday at the same time.
- Open Access throughout the day time is popular with people of all ages dropping in.
- OCN – Linda reported that we have now been provisionally approved as an OCN (Open College network) provider and we are now able to deliver a number of courses to people of all ages. In particular, this is proving to be popular with those who are aged 16-25 and who wish to return to education or just enhance their IT skills thereby increasing job and career opportunities.
- ESF – funding has been approved for delivery of various courses.
- Fujitsu training the trainers – Linda and Fay have recently received training from Fujitsu to train other Local Area Facilitators. Several sessions have now been delivered.
- Forthcoming developments
- OCN- it is proposed to continue and extend the present programme.
- ESF – Funding will change after March, however future funding opportunities will have a training emphasis.
- Staff reports: Linda reported that Nigel and Fay were married in Las Vegas in November and expressed the committee's congratulations. Linda thanked Peter Fowler for his support when Nigel and Fay were away on their honeymoon.
